In keeping with our emphasis on images to tell the story of grassroots struggles against discrimination, exploitation, war and other social justice issues, Washington Area Spark has added thumbnails to all its guides—Post Guide, Image Guide, Document Guide and Periodicals Guide and added other features to make navigation of the site easier.

We have also added descriptions to our image guide of Flickr albums.

If you are an activist seeking lessons from the past, a student writing a research paper, a local history buff or other interested person, we serve as an online library of greater Washington, D.C. activism in the pre-Internet era.

Please explore our over 5,000 primary source photographs, flyers, pamphlets, newsletter, newspapers and other material—each with a description that places it in its context and each placed in an album of the same event or related images.

We also do occasional in-depth blog posts of the story behind the photographs.

New material is added regularly, so please check back or like us on Facebook to get regular updates.
